Brandon Flowers was nice enough to give SPIN an exclusive preview of his upcoming solo debut, Flamingo, due September 14th in the US. Check out the clips HERE.

He also gives SPIN an interview as well describing his influences and the sound for the upcoming record.

Flamingo, definitely seems lighter than any of The Killer's records, but from what I've listened to I'm definitely open to it. The good thing is that Flamingo is being released in the UK September 6th so the album should be leaking very soon!

Pharrell Discusses New N.E.R.D. Album

On the new album, Nothing.

“We wanted to make it like a lifestyle. Lifestyle music. [And] girls can get freaky to it.” Also, somehow: “Most of the album is like the Doors meets America.” (He's not joking, we don't think.)

And why hasn't N.E.R.D. ever found the kind of chart success Pharrell and Hugo have repeatedly helped others achieve?

“I always go too creative on myself,” Pharrell says, “and subject my band members to my wanting to forge the new path. For pop, there’s a process. It’s got to go through so a 6-year-old can get it like a 60-year-old. Our album now, if you fuck with N.E.R.D., you will love it, but it’s different juxtaposed to your average pop act, like your Jay Sean. It’s just too real.”

Sky Ferriera Talks Collaborations And Album Details

In a new interview with ArjanWrites, Sky Ferriera talks about her upcoming album, her collaborators, and issues with "going to pop".

Sky tells the interviewer that her work with Dallas Austin, Bloodshy and Avant, Greg Kurstin, Paul Epworth, and Ryan Tedder will all make the record, but her collaborations with Linda Perry most likely won't. Instead she hopes to use them for her sophomore album.

She goes on to say that her new single "One" will be geared towards the UK, and a new poppier single, "Obsession" will be the lead US Single.

Her debut should be out at the end of this year or very early next year, depending on the success of her singles.

It should be a really good album, given all the great collaborators and everything we've heard has been pretty awesome. I can't wait to hear "Traces" in full. I hope Bloodshy and Avant can produce some Miike Snow type of tracks for Sky too.

Mr. Hudson Talks About Touring The US, Collaborations, And More

How do you feel about the success of your collaboration with Jay-Z on "Young Forever"? Do you feel like Jay is introducing you to US audiences?

Incredible. Yes, it's really kicked in the door for me. It's not everyday you get the call, "Do you wanna come and sing on Saturday Night Live?" I've been given some great opportunities and now I have to try to do justice to them.

Will you be featuring on any of your G.O.O.D music colleagues albums? We know you're on Big Sean's "Way Out."

It's a family and I'm the English cousin, which means I can't be at every barbecue but I'll try to be at all the weddings, christenings, graduations and bar mitzvahs.

Will you be launching a tour in the US to promote the album? What's the next single fans can look forward to?

We're just putting the first US tour together now. I'm very excited about getting to the other side of the pond. Jay-Z and Kanye have made the introductions and now I need to speak for myself. Should be an interesting conversation.

Diplo Says M.I.A. Didn't Care About Her New Album

On what went wrong with MAYA: “I think she’s a really controversial artist and she’s one of the most important people doing music right now, because people expect a lot. And I think that the record was like—she didn’t care about it. I was in the studio with her, she didn’t write anything. The one good review is that, at least people—she’s on the defensive for the whole record, and that doesn’t sound very authentic. Me and Switch tried our best to be quality control of the record and she didn’t want that. She kind of went on her own way. I was like, Look, nobody in your crew—we were the only people she could trust, and our asses were on the line too. We got here because of working with people like her. We care about the way things sound, and when the people that she works with don’t, then it’s fucked up. She’s got a talent in every aspect. She’s got ideas bigger than any artist I’ve ever met and she’s someone to fuckin’ make that happen. All she has is a bunch of yes men around her and they kinda suck.”

On ever working with her again: “I burned like twenty bridges with her. I build my own bridges, it doesn’t matter. I’m honest. As soon as she comes to terms with what she does then we can work again. One of us has to be like, We fucked up, and then we can do it again.”

On the backlash: “I am surprised by it. She like, retired because she married a dude and she didn’t care about music. She only did it again because “Paper Planes” did blow up in the end. It gave her a second wind, but she didn’t have any hunger anymore. She already got a full table.”

On her future: “But besides that I think she’s amazing and she’ll put another record out that’s going to be fuckin’ sick because I think she needs to get grounded at some point.”

CORRECTION and APOLOGY: It didn’t make sense to us that Diplo would say M.I.A. had “no talent in any aspect,” but after listening to the recording of the phone interview repeatedly, it was our conclusion. It turns out that conclusion was wrong. What Diplo, who was speaking very quickly, actually said was that M.I.A., has “got” talent in every aspect, which makes a lot more sense to us. Apologies to both Diplo and to M.I.A. We will now perform 40 lashes upon ourselves in repentance.

Tell me about your first official single, “One.” How did you get involved with Bloodshy & Avant [producers who have worked with Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Britney Spears]?

I wrote some of the lyrics to “One” about two and a half years ago. I got to Sweden and they played me the track. Marit Bergman and I wrote the whole song within thirty minutes. It just came out naturally. It’s about being numb and wanting to feel love, happiness, sadness—anything, really. It’s kind of like the Tin Man wanting a heart. I wrote Bloodshy & Avant a letter right before my 15th birthday and told them to sign me. Then they did, kind of right off the bat

What can we expect from the new album?

This one is a dance record. I want to get all of the stupid fun shit out of the way while I’m young and it’s appropriate, so I don’t end up wanting to do it when I’m 40 and wearing a leather leotard with my ass hanging out.

Speaking of Katy Perry, has she ever given you a great piece of career advice?

We both do the same profession and it’s really nice having a friend on the same record label that can give me advice. At the moment, though, I just like to hang out with her and not really talk about work stuff. I’ll let everyone else bug her about that shit.
